Wilderness Explorer (7 days)

Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara.

Day 1: Nairobi

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport  you will be met by  Heri Africa Safari representative who will escort you to the Sarova Stanley hotel/ similar.  Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, explore the city, relax or take an optional excursion. From the moment you enter through the revolving doors, you leave the heat and bustle of the modern Nairobi for a word of cool Victorian elegance. Bed and breakfast accommodation at The Sarova Stanley Hotel/similar.

 

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

Depart the Sarova Stanley hotel/similar after breakfast and drive North, past the kikuyu highlands on through Nanyuki town. You’ll have a breathtaking views of Mount Kenya, weather permitting and get to stop over the Equator point.  Arrive at Samburu National Reserve in time for Lunch.  Afternoon siesta until 1600 hrs, then embark on a game drive until dusk. The reserve is renowned for its unique animals that are only found north of the Equator that include: Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Generuk and the Grevys Zebra among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Samburu Lodge/similar set in the riverine forest on the western bank of  the Uaso Nyiro River.

 

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve

Full day at Samburu with both morning and afternoon game viewing drives watch the wildlife along the Ewaso Nyiro banks as they water. Leopard and lion are also easily spotted. Large herds of elephants and other wildlife are seen along the river banks as they come to water and graze. The elephant and crocodile are a guaranteed sighting in addition to excellent bird watching; The reserve is true wilderness. All meals and overnight at Samburu Lodge /similar

 

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park

After an early breakfast depart Samburu driving south crossing the northernmost foothills of Mount Kenya,  through Nanyuki and Nyahururu with a brief stopover at Thomson falls for its 237-foot cascade and continue to Lake Nakuru National Park.  You’ll arrive at Flamingo Hill Luxury Tented Camp affording unforgettable views of the lake from its hillside perch.  The Camp also is a perfect base from which to explore the lake, with its fabulous array of birds as well as many types of game, including waterbuck, rhino, leopard and buffalo. Lunch will be served at the Camp.  Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park.  A game drive in Nakuru National Park which is, famous for its bird life as thousands of flamingos make this lake their home, among hundreds of other species.  But wildlife is also in abundance here.  You’ll see large numbers of waterbuck, warthog, impala, buffalo, plains game, cheetah, and now rhino, as Lake Nakuru National Park has been made into one of Kenya’s rhino sanctuary. After a rewarding game drive return to the lodge for Dinner and overnight at   Flamingo Hill Luxury Camp / similar

 

Day 5: Masai Mara National Reserve

Early breakfast in the lodge then depart  Lake Nakuru  driving through the foot of the Rift Valley to arrive Maasai Mara, Mara Sopa Lodge/ similar in time for  lunchtime. Lunch at the  lodge. At 1600hrs you will embark on a game drive in this magnificent game reserve.  Maasai Mara is an extension of the Serengeti ecosystem to the south. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge / similar

 

Day 6 : Masai Mara National Reserve

Another full day in Maasai Mara with two game drives, in the morning and at 1600 hrs. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge /similar. The Masai Mara National Reserve is the most popular game reserve in Kenya. Located in the Rift Valley, it’s a jewel to watch. It has incredible wide open landscapes and fertile woodlands following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers. All big five; lion, buffalo, lion, leopard, rhino are easily spotted here. In addition to the spectacular wildebeest annual migration during July and August.

 

Day 7: Nairobi-Departure

After breakfast, depart the Mara for Nairobi. Enroute, visit a masai cultural village. The masai have preserved their culture for a relatively long time. Colourful and elaborate beadwork characterize their jewelry. The morans, huts, dresses and their way of life are an interesting bit. Continue with the drive to arrive Nairobi, at the Carnivore Restaurant for a sumptuous lunch. After lunch drop off to the Jomo Kenyatta Airport for your homebound flight.
